Submission: The path of Empowerment
Submission: the path to empowerment Leadership is different in the “Church” 1Pe 5:1 The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed: 1Pe 5:2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; 1Pe 5:3 Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock. 1Pe 5:4 And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away. 1Pe 5:5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. 1Pe 5:6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: 7 qualities of spiritual leadership: 1. Shepherd: To feed and nourish, tend, supervise 2. Among you: not under you, not over you, but among you 3. Serving as: A capacity of Responsibility 4. Overseer: To manage, inspect, Beware 5. Willingly: Not by force 6. Eagerly: Not for dishonest gain, financial incentive, not for a personal agenda 7. Example: model, stamp, statue, scar. Being an example is LAST on the list You hear so much about leaders must lead by example. Yes, but, Peter outlines 6 dominant qualities ahead of being an example. Plus, if you are practicing the other six qualities you ARE an example. 1. Why SUBMIT? Submission is about the transfer of power and authority. Submission is a “Test” When you are in submission, in your place, to established GOD Ordained authorities. The full blessing, power, authority of GOD flows unhindered through you and to you. Rebel against it and you live in frustration, failure, and fear. …for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. God personally, actively resists you when you are operating in pride. He resists pride, but, GIVES GRACE to the humble. 2. Submission is the path of empowerment A. Many misunderstand submission: 1. it’s a dirty word in many circles. Its culturally anathema to our “American value system” 2. Submission as taught in many churches is Theologically unsound, or bad. Used as a means of manipulation and “Control” 3. Submission is often taught as a means or excuse for Abuse of Authority 4. Submission is used to dominate, subjugate Women in “Religious” org. Very poor teaching and preaching have led to bondage instead of liberty. Religion, instead of relationship. If you preach from any or all of the four positions you don’t understand Biblical Submisson. However, we can “sift” out our bad theology and get a pure and truthful revelation of what the Word says. It will liberate us and empower us as a body. 2. God establishes Authorities - Governing principles a. The purpose of God ordained authorities is ORDER and STRUCTURE Example: Gravity is a Governing Principle or Authority It is a blessing as long as you obey it and submit to its order and structure. However, if you decide to rebel, and jump off a high rise, you will suffer the consequences: and it will be you OWN FAULT Many times we suffer consequence in life because we have failed to submit to a proper authority. Failure is our own fault. God places authorities in our life to establish success. But you have to submit to that authority first. Rom 13:1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Rom 13:2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. Jas 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. You cannot successfully resist Satan ways, laws, attacks, until you successfully Submit to God, his ways, his word, his authorities placed in your life. If you are not experiencing victory, go back and check your submission to God, the Word, AND the authorities he has placed over you in life. B. The centurions submission (Mat 8:8) The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed. (Mat 8:9) For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it. (Mat 8:10) When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel. This is a highly profound dialogue that AMAZED Jesus. Biblical, scriptural, word based submission to authority is an example of “GREAT FAITH” III. Authority and Submission They are intimately bound to one another and it is unbalanced to teach on one without teaching about the other. The greater the sphere of, and influence of your submission, the greater is the sphere of, and influence of your Authority. Authority without submission breeds extremism: Tyranny, dictatorship, war mongering, power grabbing, authoritarianism…. Submission without authority breeds weakness, weak character, poverty, pacifism. You become everyone’s doormat. Your humility is false humility. When you violently cut them off from one another they fly off into extremisms. a. An unbalance wheel on the hiway b. Our country: everyone wants to be a law unto themselves. No one wants to submit to our constitution. Obey, obedience is “TRUE SUBMISSION”: When you walk in obedience to the WORD, and to GOD ORDAINED AUTHORITIES you are “empowered” for success in life. There is a relationship here I want to bring to your attention: Submission + Obedience = Humility Humility is related to Meekness. Meekness is not weakness: it is power under control. Now, how does power under control display itself? It displays itself in ASSERTIVENESS, RESPECT, Balance, and discipline. SUCCESS in LIFE
When you walk in Submission to the WORD and to GOD ORDAINED AUTHORITIES you are walking in true authority. You have positioned yourself to be literally in the divine flow with unhindered, unfettered blessings.
